Look and character
With a 2x squeeze, the image is optically compressed horizontally by 2× and stretched back in post. That gives these desqueezed aspect ratios, by recorded area:
- 16:9 sensor area → 3.56:1
- 3:2 sensor area → 3.00:1
- 4:3 sensor area → 2.67:1
Horizontally, a 40 mm 2x lens covers roughly the width of a 20 mm spherical lens on the same format (focal ÷ squeeze); vertically it stays 40 mm.
